CLE/CPE Series

NJAPM offers multiple programs to help mediators address different kinds of disputes and continue their professional and legal education.

Webinars: Cultural Competency


Part 1: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 (noon-1:45 p.m.). It will focus on family mediation. The presenters and descriptions of this program are shown below.

Part 2: Tuesday, March 9, 2021 (noon-1:45 p.m.). It will focus on civil mediation. The presenters and descriptions of this program are shown below.

The subject matter of the programs will include the following components pursuant to Regulation 103:1(k)(4), as amended effective January 1, 2021.

  • Cultural Competency in the Practice of Mediation
  • Serving a Diverse Population in helping Parties Resolve Legal Disputes
  • Focusing on “Equal Access to Justice” by Providing Parties From Different Cultures and
  • Backgrounds With Reasonable Opportunities for Mediation
  • Educating Attendees on Potential Implicit and Explicit Bias in Mediation Proceedings
  • Considering New Ways to Develop further Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives in the Mediation and Legal Profession
  • These webinars will be free to NJAPM members who do not want CLE/CPE credits.
  • For those wanting CLE/CPE credits, each of these programs qualifies for two CLE credits including newly required special cultural competency and diversity/inclusion credits.
  • The price for the two-part package is $50 for NJAPM members and $100 for non-members.

Part 1 will be introduced by Carl Peters, President of NJAPM, and moderated by Lawrence R. Jones, former Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court.

The panel will be composed of:

  • Raj Saadeh, Esq. ( Immediate Past Chair, NJSBA Young Lawyers Division)

  • Why and How Cultural Competency is Relevant in Family Law Practice
  • Important Steps a Family Mediator can take to improve cultural competency and settle cases
  • How to assist parties who come from different cultures
  • Addressing Possible Imbalances of Power
  • Mediating Matters where non-party family members and others have significant influence in the resolution process

  • Use of Questionnaires and other Materials to Enhance Cultural Competency

CLE/CPE Series


NJAPM’s first annual CLE/CPE webinar series will provide CLEs to our attorney members and CPE credits to financial professionals.

  • The total cost for the entire series is only $60, which is less than $10 per webinar. But to make the deal even better, you will receive a $60 credit when you register for the NJAPM’s Annual Conference, which will be held on November 14th.
  • If you attend all seven webinars and attend the annual conference you would get 13.8 credits.
  • For members who do not want CLEs or CPEs, the webinars will be free as usual.
  • This special package is in addition to other webinars and online programs that will be offered without CLEs.
