Classes are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We start and end at these exact times.

  • Only register for the class if you are able to attend all five days of our training.
  • Classes offered annually in fall and spring (dates to be announced).

Divorce mediation is rapidly becoming the preferred method for couples to get divorced. If you are an attorney, mental health or other professional and want to become a divorce mediator and receive training from New Jersey's premier association of professional mediators, you should take this course. This class is open to all interested parties.

Key elements of training

  • Parenting, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, and domestic violence.
  • Process: How a divorce mediation is conducted from beginning to end.
  • Separate Breakout Session on Challenges of Mediating: For those having working knowledge of child support guidelines.
  • Receive documents, such as agreements to mediate, balance and expense spreadsheets, and Memorandum of Understanding in both paper and electronic format that you can customize for your practice.
  • Technique: Learn what mediation is, what good mediation skills are, and how to use these techniques in your practice.
  • 1:40 Family Economic Program: Meets 40-Hour course requirement (https://njcourts.gov/courts/family/familyrosters.html)
  • CLEs: The course qualifies for 48 NJ CLE credits including 2.4 ethics credits.
  • CPEs: The course qualifies for 48 CPE credits including 2.4 ethics credits.

Program features

  • Multi-disciplinary faculty: The faculty is composed of attorneys, mental health professionals, CPA's and other professionals who mediate divorces regularly.
  • Multi-disciplinary faculty will expose you to different mediation approaches and styles.
  • You will be a better mediator by learning from this diverse faculty.
  • Small classes: Classes are limited to a maximum of 24 students. You will be able to better participate in the extensive role-plays and receive individualized attention from the faculty.
  • Low student-teacher ratio: There will a ratio of 1 instructor for every 8 students for role plays.
  • Weekend classes for your convenience.
  • Follow-up teleconference three months after training session.

  • Lecture: Learn from prominent mediators and other experts.
  • Faculty demonstration: Learn by watching experienced mediators.
  • Student role plays: Learn by doing.

Credits (CLE & CPE)
This course is approved by the New Jersey Courts to satisfy the training requirements for admission to the Civil Mediation Roster. This course is also approved for 48 credit hours NJ CLEs (4.2 for ethics). NY and PA attorneys may be able to apply NJ credits in those states.  Please see https://www.nycourts.gov/attorneys/cle/approvedjurisdictions.shtml and https://www.pacle.org/about/rulesregs.asp (Section 12) for more details and to determine if these credits will successfully transfer to NY or PA.  CPE credits on request.

Registration Information
The course fee is $1,550. You may reserve your space by paying a $300 non-refundable deposit. The remainder of the course must be made one month before the class starts, or you risk losing your reserved spot. Or you can pay in full and receive your payment less a $300 deposit if you cancel five days before the class.  Registrations made within one month of the class, must be paid in full. Course fee includes all course materials (except for optional course reading recommendations), and access to the class DropBox with forms, sample Memoranda of Understanding, and other reading materials.

  • Students cancelling more than five days before the class starts who are paid-in-full, will receive a $1,250 refund.
  • Students cancelling five or less days before the class starts who are paid-in-full, will receive a $1,162.50 refund.
  • Except in extreme situations, refunds will not be issued after the program starts; student will be offered the opportunity to take the next scheduled training.

Please note for the NJAPM membership is provided at no costs.  If you cancel, we will bill you for the pro-rated values of dues. You remain a member of NJAPM even if you have to cancel. We hope to see you at our other events and webinars.

  • $300 deposit (you must make full payment to hold your spot)
  • Balance of $1,250 by one month before of start of the class
  • Full Payment of $1,550
  • All registrations after one month before must be paid in full

Technical Requirements and Constraints: You must have a device with a camera and microphone, and sufficient bandwidth to participate in this class.  If you need to test any of these technical requirements, please contact us before you register. Only people registered for the class may observer or participate in the class and no video or audio recordings are permitted.

Maximum of 24 students in a class. This class oversold in recent terms.  Register early to avoid being wait listed.
