Fall 2018 40 Hour Divorce Mediation Training Course


Registration for Fall 2018 is now open: This class will be held over five weekend days in October: October 13th, 14th, 20th, 27th, and 28th, 2018.

Divorce mediation is rapidly becoming the preferred method for couples to get divorced. If you are an attorney, mental health or other professional and want to become a divorce mediator and receive training from New Jersey's premier association of professional mediators, you should take this course

 

Key elements

Key Elements of Training

· Parenting, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, and domestic violence.

· Process: How a divorce mediation is conducted from beginning to end.

· Separate Breakout Session on Challenges of Mediating: For those having working knowledge of child support guidelines.

· Receive documents, such as agreements to mediate, balance and expense spreadsheets, and Memoranda of Understanding in both paper and electronic format that you can customize for your practice.

· Technique: Learn what mediation is, what good mediation skills are, and how to use these techniques in your practice.

· 1:40 Family Economic Program: Meets 40-Hour course requirement.

· CLEs: The course qualifies for 48 NJ CLE credits including 2.4 ethics credits.

· CPEs: The course qualifies for 48 CPE credits including 2.4 ethics credits.

 

Program features

· Multi-disciplinary faculty: The faculty is composed of attorneys, mental health professionals, CPA's and other professionals who mediate divorces regularly.

· This multi-disciplinary faculty will expose you to different mediation approaches and styles.

· You will be a better mediator by learning from this diverse faculty.

· Small classes: Classes are limited to a maximum of 24 students. You will be able to better participate in the extensive role-plays and receive individualized attention from the faculty.

· Low student-teacher ratio: There will a ratio of 1 instructor for every 8 students for role plays.

· Weekend classes for your convenience.

· Follow-up teleconference three months after training session.

 

Method of instruction

· Lecture: Learn from prominent mediators and other experts.

· Faculty demonstration: Learn by watching experienced mediators.

· Student role plays: Learn by doing.

Credits (CLE & CPE)

This course is approved by the New Jersey Courts to satisfy the training requirements for admission to the Civil Mediation Roster.  This course is also approved for 48 credit hours NJ CLEs (4.2 for ethics).  NY and PA attorneys may be able to apply NJ credits in those states.  Please see https://www.nycourts.gov/attorneys/cle/approvedjurisdictions.shtml and https://www.pacle.org/about/rulesregs.asp (Section 12) for more details and to determine if these credits will successfully transfer to NY or PA.  CPE credits on request.

Registration Information

The course fee is $1,550 if paid in full on or prior to September 19, 2018. Prior to September 19, 2018 you may reserve your space by paying a $200 non-refundable deposit. The remainder of the course fee for those who have made deposits must be made by September 19, 2018 or you risk losing your reserved spot. New registrations made on or after September 19, 2018 must be paid in full. Course fee includes daily lunch and snacks, and course materials (except the course textbook).

Any cancelation by a student after fees are paid will be subject to a $200 cancelation fee ($300 cancelation fee if cancelation request received within 10 days of the start of the course). No refunds will be issued after the program has started.   NJAPM reserves the right to cancel the training and return all fees.

The course is held at the Rutgers University Continuing Education Center in New Brunswick, NJ

Maximum of 24 students in a class. This class oversold in recent terms.  Register early to avoid being waitlisted.
